Kansas City has seen some legendary rock concerts, including the Beatles’ appearance in 1964 at Municipal Stadium, the Who at Shawnee Mission South High School in 1967 and the Jacksons’ Victory Tour kickoff at Arrowhead Stadium in 1986.

I was at the Beatles concert. My Mom one a ticket for me from a radio station contest… 17th row…..also was at the WHO show at SMS….but only the Rockers knew who the WHO were, every one else went that night to see the Buckinghams…..LOL…….Boy, who was right on that pick, LOL……Never went to any summer jam or any concerts at arrowhead……I saw Led Zeppelin at Memorial Hall, along with many others thru the years,…. Eric Clapton with Delaney and Bonnie, Moody Blues, James Gang, Mahogany Rush, and the last time I was there was for Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble with the Fabulous Thunderbirds, not too long before Stevies’s Death
I saw The Beatles in ’64, their opening act was Jack Nead & The Jumping Jacks, a great local group. When The Beatles came on all I heard were screams. I saw The Dave Clark Five at Municipal Auditorium the same year and could at least hear them. I saw Canned Heat and the Bob Seeger System at Memorial Hall. Jimi Hendrix in ’68 at Municipal and later Joe Cocker at Municipal. I didn’t see the Who at Shawnee Mission but I knew who they were in ’67 while others didn’t. In 1968 The Who had their 1st official U.S. tour as a headlining act. I was drummer for one of their opening acts. It was an amazing night at Municipal Auditorium with a great show. Keith Moon was one of the best rock drummers I have ever seen or heard to this day.
